Hi, I’m Sharon Hunneybell, and if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I’m deeply passionate about blending creativity with technology to build innovative solutions that make a real difference. For over 20 years, I’ve been on a journey that’s taken me from a shy, curious IT professional to leading some of the most exciting initiatives in Australia’s tech and startup communities. But no matter where my career has taken me, my driving force has always been the same: harnessing the power of technology and human connection to spark positive change.
As the Founder and CEO of the Gold Coast Innovation Hub, I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredible mix of entrepreneurs, creatives, and technologists who share my belief that innovation doesn’t just come from technology—it comes from collaboration, inclusivity, and the desire to solve meaningful problems. I thrive on creating environments where people feel empowered to share ideas, take risks, and build something bigger than themselves. For me, technology is more than just a tool; it’s a catalyst for creativity and growth, and it’s most impactful when used to lift others up.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate enough to work across a wide range of businesses, from startups to established companies. My time as General Manager at Opmantek, where I helped lead the company’s global expansion, taught me how to scale businesses while staying true to their innovative roots. Now, as a fractional CTO and advisor to multiple tech startups, I get to dive into the heart of what makes companies tick and help them navigate the ever-evolving tech landscape.
But what I’m most passionate about is creating spaces where everyone—regardless of their background—can contribute to and benefit from the innovation happening around them. For me, inclusivity is a core value. I believe the best ideas come from diverse voices, and I’m dedicated to fostering leadership that thrives on collaboration. Whether it’s through my work with the Gold Coast Angels, my advisory roles, or mentoring the next wave of entrepreneurs, I’m always looking for ways to make sure everyone has a seat at the table.
I’ve also had the honour of being recognised for my contributions to the industry, including being named one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence by the Australian Financial Review and receiving the Women in Technology Excellence in Industry Leadership Award. But the true reward for me is seeing the impact that collaborative, innovative communities can create—whether it’s through a breakthrough technology, a successful business, or a solution that improves lives.
